BusConnects Dublin

Scope

The National Transport Authority (NTA) aims to develop an enhanced bus system that is better for Dublin city, its people and the environment by creating 230km of continuous bus priority and 200kms of cycle tracks along 16 of the city’s busiest corridors and redesigning the network.

Apex Surveys were commissioned to undertake a Topographic Survey of the south-side routes and Underground Utility Survey of selected areas along the north-side routes.

Topographic Survey

Topographic Survey comprised of routes through Clondalkin, Greenhills, Kimmage, Tallaght, Rathfarnham, Blackrock, Merrion, Bray, City Centre, Ballsbridge and Ringsends spanning approximately 70 kilometres of urban roads totalling an area of approximately 3,000,000 SQM.

• Comprehensive survey control network established.

• Survey carried out as per the QBN Project Office Topographic Survey Specification for Urban Projects.

• Survey of standard topographic features such as walls, railings buildings, kerbs, service covers, street furniture, road markings, road levels and spot level.

• Survey of intricate detail such as concrete flags stones, brick paving, antique granite, edges of all bands of materials, coloured bricks, drop kerbs and kerb widths.

• All roof lights, private landings, cellar covers, utility covers and the location of building rainwater downpipes surveyed.

• Survey delivered in 2D and 3D AutoCAD format along with associated reports.

Underground Utility Survey

Underground Utility Survey was focused on key locations such as junctions, congested areas and areas of interest with a total area surveyed of approximately 200,000 SQM.

• Survey carried out in accordance with requirements of a Type B detection survey as per PAS 128 specification.

• The detection method required was to a minimum M4P using a high density array GPR.

• Services located included Surface Water Drainage, Foul Sewerage, Water Mains, Telecommunications, Ventilation Ducts, Heating Pipes, Electricity, Cable TV, Combined Services Ducts, Gas, Street Lighting.

• Underground Cellars and Basements located and mapped.

• Manhole data/log sheets provided for each chamber within the survey areas, which included photos, internal dimensions, depth, number of ducts/ pipes, types of cabling within the chambers and sketches showing the location of incoming and outgoing ducts/ pipes.

• Survey delivered in 2D and 3D AutoCAD format along with associated reports.
