Scope
The OPW is undertaking the National Catchment-based Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Programme in consultation with the Local Authorities and supported by external engineering consultants. The objectives of the CFRAM Programme is to:
identify and map the existing and potential future flood hazard and flood risk in the areas at potentially significant risk from flooding, called Areas for Further Assessment (AFAs).
identify feasible structural and non-structural measures to effectively manage the assessed risk in each of the AFAs.
prepare a set of Flood Risk Management Plans, and associated Strategic Environmental and Habitats Directive (Appropriate) Assessments, that set out the proposed feasible measures and actions to manage the flood risk in these areas and their river catchments.
Apex Survey participated in carrying out hydrographic surveys for the original CFRAMS study and is still engaged in the continuous program of activities to evaluate the flood hazard nationwide.
Key Activities
Nationwide coverage with 3000+ bridges, structures and cross sections surveyed to-date.
Survey of river beds carried out using survey vessel equipped with sonar technology.
River embankments surveyed using high precision GPS and total station.
Elevations of bridges and culverts carried out using laser scanning technology.
Strict health and safety procedures implemented for working on and around water.
Thousands of cross sections surveyed to date.
Bed levels, water levels and embankment levels included in the survey deliverables.
Culvert levels, pipe diameters and structural dimensions included in the structural elevations and cross sections.
