Scope

The survey was commissioned by Monaghan County Council for the survey and structural inspection of 30 bridges situated throughout County Monaghan. The majority of these bridges were short span stone arch bridges with others being of slab or clapper construction.

The requirement was for a hydrographic, topographic and bridge dimensional survey to be carried out at each of the bridge locations.

Key Activities

  • Traffic Management implemented at each bridge as per Chapter 8.

  • Topographic Survey included the installation of survey control at each location and the collection of data such as spot levels and linear features such as kerbs, verges, etc on the bridges and to extend up to 100m on bridge approaches.

  • Hydrographic Survey included the survey of river details at each location for up to 100m upstream and downstream of the birdge.

  • Dimensional Bridge Survey included Elevations of the upstream and downstream face, bridge span, arch thickness, arch width and voussoir dimensions, slab thickness, parapet height and thickness and notes pertaining to any changes in construction.

  • A GPR survey was also undertaken over the extent of the bridge structures and for 5m on each approach in accordance with PAS128 to located the position of underground services.

  • The survey deliverables included 2D & 3D topographic survey drawings in AutoCAD format.
