Scope

Ballintubber Abbey is a royal abbey near the village of Ballintubber, County Mayo, founded by King Cathal Crobdearg Ua Conchobair in 1216.

The Ballintubber Abbey Restoration Project seeks to further develop the structure of Ballintubber Abbey to create an interpretive centre to educate, engage and inspire visitors regarding the extraordinary historical, cultural and spiritual legacy of the Abbey.

Apex Surveys were commissioned to carry out highly detailed Floor Plans, Elevations and Sections to assist with the restoration plan.

Key Activities

  • Combination of Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry carried out to ensure capture of the most intricate detail.

  • Elevations produced of all exterior Abbey walls, ruined walls and other significant features.

  • Elevations included each individual stone drafted individually, decorative features at windows and doors, window an door panelling, brickwork, roof detail, down pipes etc.

  • Internal Floor Plans consisted of Ground Floor, 1st Floor and Mezzanine level. Floor Plans included columns, beams, canopies, wooden features, window and door detail and ceiling levels.

  • Detailed cross sections and sectional elevations generated.

  • Survey delivered in AutoCAD to scale of 1:100.
